GoFibre completes Project Gigabit build for Northumberland contract

GoFibre has connected more than 3,800 homes and businesses across north Northumberland, giving access to faster broadband in a major milestone for Project Gigabit, and helping to close the digital divide.

The broadband provider has installed 415 kilometres of new full fibre cable to rural communities in north Northumberland, from Seahouses to Wooler, as the first full project contract completed four months ahead of schedule.

More than 300 businesses in the region can now access speeds over 30 times faster, boosting productivity and helping grow the local economy as part of the Government’s Plan for Change.

As part of its commitments as a Project Gigabit supplier, GoFibre also offered a number of free connections to important community facilities in the region.

Neil Conaghan, CEO of GoFibre said: “GoFibre the first provider to have successfully completed the build for a Project Gigabit contract in the UK, but we’ve done it four months ahead of schedule.

“This means that thousands of homes and businesses across north Northumberland, including in underserved and rural areas, can now get access to the fastest full fibre broadband available on the GoFibre network, with all the benefits that brings.”
