Carnival Internet UK, a new broadband provider, has launched in the UK, aiming to provide a focus on fairness, and sustainability for the industry.

F&W Networks and retail partner Hey!Broadband have begun a programme reusing of customer premises equipment (CPE), specifically routers and Optical Network Terminals (ONTs), to reduce electronic waste and lessen environmental impact.
This joint initiative is a response to the growing environmental concerns associated with the manufacture and disposal of network infrastructure equipment, according to the provider.
The scheme bypassed the production of new routers and ONTs which typically involves energy-intensive manufacturing processes, the extraction of finite raw materials, and a carbon-heavy supply chain.
F&W Networks and Hey!Broadband will cut carbon emissions and reduce the environmental costs associated with international transportation between factories, distribution centres and warehouses.
Each device is screened and tested to ensure it is fully fit for purpose, with multiple trials undertaken to verify performance following firmware updates and upgrades. The initiative has since scaled up to include not only routers, but also ONTs and Smart WiFi units.
All reused equipment undergoes secure data erasure, comprehensive diagnostics, and rigorous quality assurance testing.
Xavier Balleste, COO at F&W Networks, said: “Our goal is to successfully reuse 90% of all returned equipment and we’re proud of the meaningful progress we’ve already made.”
Lourdes Saez, CEO at Hey!Broadband, added: “We believe small, deliberate changes across our industry can collectively deliver a big impact.”
