AllPoints Fibre Networks has agreed a new multi-million-pound partnership with BT Wholesale as it continues to expand the reach of its full fibre broadband offering.
Point Topic’s latest data reveals that fibre networks have passed 38% of the UK premises and has identified the regions with the highest and lowest fibre coverage.
The research shows that in 27% of local authorities the fibre coverage was lower than 20% of premises. It was 50% or higher in 23% of local authorities.
The local authorities with the highest percent of premises passed by fibre are Kingston upon Hull (99.3%), Belfast (93.1%), Ards and North Down (89%), Coventry (89%) and Milton Keynes (88.8%).
On the other side of the scale are the Isles of Scilly (1.5%), the Orkney Islands (2%), Oxford (2.1%), North East Lincolnshire (2.3%) and Oadby and Wigstone (2.6%)
Point Topic also found that across the UK, more than 800K premises could choose between three independent fibre ISPs, with Peterborough being top of the charts in this category. Almost 1.6m UK premises had access to two or more independent fibre providers.
Gigabit broadband adoption rate varied between 3% and 55% among various ISPs.
