The UK Government is proposing a series of potential changes to the Electronic Communications Code (ECC) which may allow rural resellers to benefit from a faster 4G and 5G rollout, according to Gigaclear CEO Gareth Williams.
Gigaclear is hoping that revisions to the 2017 ECC will speed up land access negotiations and allow broadband providers to deploy networks to the areas of the UK with weakest connections.
Williams said: "Securing access to land in a reasonable timeframe, especially in rural areas, is one of the biggest obstacles to connecting historically underserved areas of the UK to gigabit-capable fibre broadband.
"At present, land access negotiations can go on for many months, which can cause delays that have a knock-on effect across entire network build footprints.
"We support the Government's commitment to reviewing this area of legislation and will of course respond."
