Wessex Internet has connected its first customer in South Wiltshire as part of an £18.8 million contract awarded by Project Gigabit, bringing faster broadband to around 14,500 residents across the region.
Openreach is beginning work to bring fibre to the island of Lismore through the Scottish Government’s £600m Reaching 100% (R100) programme.
The first properties on the island are due to be ready for service later this year, available from any service providers on the Openreach network.
Robert Thorburn, Partnership Director for Openreach Scotland, said: “Island builds are a big logistical challenge. We need to ship over all the right people and equipment for several months to deliver the network.”
Openreach will build out from subsea cables laid last year.
