BT completes £1.9m full fibre build for Swansea Bay City Deal

A major £1.9m investment project to bolster full fibre across the Swansea Bay City region has been completed, delivered in partnership with BT through the Public Sector Broadband Aggregation (PSBA), upgrading connectivity to 69 public sector sites across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire.

The Swansea Bay City Deal’s Digital Infrastructure (DI) Programme will allow a variety of sites, including leisure centres and council buildings, to access fast and reliable broadband network in place to support evolving public services and help transform their delivery, and act as a catalyst for broader regional connectivity.

This investment will help to extend the region’s fibre spine, making it easier and more viable for commercial providers to expand full fibre coverage to rural or underserved homes and businesses.

It also forms a key part of the DI Programme’s Connected Places workstream, which aims to equip public sector organisations with the digital infrastructure needed to improve transformation, innovation, and inclusive economic growth across the region.

Cllr Rob Stewart, leader of Swansea Council and Chair of the Swansea Bay City Deal Joint committee said: “This is about unlocking the full potential of our public assets, futureproofing our region, and ensuring our communities are not left behind in the digital age.

“Through this investment, we’re enabling our local authorities and health partners to innovate, deliver smarter services, and ultimately improve the lives of residents.”
