nexfibre has published its latest quarterly build update (Q1 2025), which shows its 10GBps FTTP/XGS-PON broadband network now covers 2.2m UK premises, with scaled back coverage target for 2025 to 2.5m premises passed, reducing future build plans for the next year.

CityFibre has completed the primary build of its full fibre network in Southend-on-Sea. Its network is now ready for service to over 70,000 homes, about 90% of the city’s residential properties, as well as most businesses, key public sector and community sites.
Construction began on the £51m project in July 2019 and CityFibre has since laid almost 1,000km of dense full fibre infrastructure across the city.
Neil Madle, Partnership Manager for Southend-on-Sea at CityFibre, said: “Now equipped with full fibre connectivity, the local community stands ready to reap the many productivity and innovation benefits that full fibre offers.”
A recent Hatch report found Southend-on-Sea could benefit from £296m in productivity and innovation gains and £65m from a widened workforce over a 15-year period due to the new digital infrastructure.
CityFibre’s services in the area will be available through launch partner Vodafone, TalkTalk, Giganet and Zen.
