Wessex Internet has connected its first customer in South Wiltshire as part of an £18.8 million contract awarded by Project Gigabit, bringing faster broadband to around 14,500 residents across the region.
Engineering work will start in March as Gigaclear and build partner Clancy look to connect 7,000 properties in Chilworth. This marks the altnet’s first community in Surrey, the 23rd county it will enter.
Gigaclear Senior Project Manager Jonathan Divito said: “Whilst other broadband providers compete to offer their services in dense, urban areas we’re focussing on communities that are less likely to have a choice of supplier.”
Where possible, Gigaclear will be utilising existing Openreach ducts and poles to minimise disruption.
