Freedom Fibre is no longer able to complete a contract to roll out gigabit-capable broadband to 12,000 premises in north Shropshire in full, due to changes in the external market, in a new report from the government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) Agency.

Wessex Internet has been awarded an £18m government-funded Project Gigabit contract to address around 14,500 homes and businesses in South Wiltshire.
This will be Wessex Internet’s third Project Gigabit contract and is planned to last five years, with construction due to start in September 2024 and the first properties expected to be connected by the end of this year.
It enables the altnet to extend its network across the Wylye Valley going across the Salisbury Plain connecting villages surrounding Amesbury to the east and going as far north as Chisbury and Little Bedwyn.
Hector Gibson Fleming, CEO at Wessex Internet, said: “Fast, reliable broadband is essential to modern living, and those living and working in rural communities should not be left behind.”
