JSM Group has been granted Ofcom Code Powers to improve its client offering by simplifying processes, particularly for power cable trenching and infrastructure projects.
X-Fibre has made a request to Ofcom for Code powers as it seeks to expand its reach across Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire.
The altnet aims to pass 10,00 homes in the next five years, according to its application.
X-Fibre was incorporated in April 2021 and has since installed networks in rural areas of Surrey Hills and several towns and villages in West Sussex where existing broadband coverage is poor. It primarily uses its own infrastructure but also plans to use Openreach’s PIA product.
Ofcom states: “The Applicant has stated that it intends to deploy its FTTP network in rural areas that are not covered by Openreach’s FTTC facilities or an alternative cable network.
“Many target properties are a significant distance from the existing FTTC cabinet and have a service providing limited broadband speeds. We consider that the network planned by the Applicant would have the potential to benefit the public.”
