Vodafone UK’s CEO Ahmed Essam has added his voice to those in favour of Openreach’s proposed new pricing arrangement for its FTTP services, Equinox II.

Only 5.1 per cent of those eligible for social tariffs have switched to cost saving schemes (220k of a potential 4.3 million households), with 53 per cent of benefits claimants still unaware of their existence.

Under new proposals announced by Ofcom, broadband providers would only be able to use the terms ‘fibre’ and ‘full-fibre’ if their network uses fibre-optic cables all the way from the exchange to the home.
