Openreach has begun work to deliver its full fibre services in Northallerton and Whitby in North Yorkshire, and Penistone in South Yorkshire.

The company’s network in North Yorkshire currently reaches more than 175,000 homes and businesses.

Keith Elliott, Regional Specialist Fibre Manager, said: “Wherever possible, we’ll use our existing network of ducts and poles but there may be places where we need to install new poles or underground ducts to make sure as many premises as possible are included in the upgrade.”

Across North Yorkshire, further investment is planned across Bedale, Hawes, Green Hammerton, Old Catterick, Ripon and Snainton.

Across the Barnsley local authority, where Peniston is located, Openreach’s fibre network passes around 22,000 homes and businesses. It will continue building in Barnsley (town), Cudworth, Darton, Royston, Silkstone, Stocksbridge (1,200 premises within Barnsley local authority area) and Wombwell.
