CityFibre has begun work to connect more than 45,000 homes and businesses across areas of Leicestershire and Warwickshire to full fibre thanks to an award of £77m as part of Project Gigabit.
CityFibre has begun work to connect more than 25,000 homes and businesses across areas of Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes to full fibre broadband made possible by a £51m Project Gigabit award.
The 25,000 premises will have access to full fibre for the first time using a range of both new and well-known ISPs.
This rollout marks the sixth of nine Project Gigabit delivery contracts secured by CityFibre, with the first Project Gigabit customers already connected in Cambridge, Norfolk and Suffolk.
CityFibre is also contributing its own investment to deliver the project and reach more homes and businesses in the area.
The altnet provider’s Project Gigabit rollouts are part of the company’s commitment to reach at least eight million premises nationwide.
Built using XGS-PON technology, the network will enable its current and future ISP partners to serve customers with faster and more reliable broadband services.
Greg Mesch, Chief Executive Officer at CityFibre, said: “This Project Gigabit rollout represents our dedication to repairing the digital divide, empowering rural communities to thrive with the advantages of advanced connectivity.”
