Freedom Fibre is no longer able to complete a contract to roll out gigabit-capable broadband to 12,000 premises in north Shropshire in full, due to changes in the external market, in a new report from the government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) Agency.

All 181 primary, nursery and Additional Support Needs schools in north Lanarkshire now have fibre connections following a contract delivered by Commsworld more than 20 times the previous capacity, and secondary school connections are five times faster than before.
This will improve the capacity to deliver digital education content and provide enhanced security and safeguarding support with fully filtered connectivity.
Ultrafast internet connectivity for schools is a key area in North Lanarkshire Council’s 15-year programme with Commsworld to transform and improve connectivity across the region, delivering a GVA of around £1.3bn.
Sam Reymbaut, Commsworld Account Director, said: “This service is set to provide a significant enhancement of capacity, resilience and security in schools so that they can gain access to the best digital resources currently available.
“It also represents another key milestone in our digital journey with North Lanarkshire Council.”
The contract includes a 340km network of gigabit-capable ultra-fast full fibre to transform residential, business and public sector connectivity. Commsworld will also connect all 29 parks in North Lanarkshire.
