Freedom Fibre is no longer able to complete a contract to roll out gigabit-capable broadband to 12,000 premises in north Shropshire in full, due to changes in the external market, in a new report from the government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) Agency.

GoFibre has awarded a three-year contract to L3 Optics to help deliver the first Project Gigabit lot in Scotland, improving connectivity for residents by giving access to full fibre broadband.
In February 2025, the altnet provider was named as the supplier in the first Project Gigabit contract in Scotland and will connect around 11,000 additional premises in the Borders and East Lothian.
The Scottish Government is leading delivery of local and regional Project Gigabit contracts in Scotland, helping communities and supporting local businesses with upgraded digital infrastructure.
