Community Fibre is pushing its social broadband tariff, which is accessible without proof of income support, following the government’s announced plans to make the most affordable packages as accessible as possible.

Research from the altnet found that one-in-five Brits say they cannot afford to be online, and half say they have struggled to keep up with broadband or mobile data payments.

“Existing Community Fibre customers who already have a broadband package, but are struggling to keep up with payments as a result of the cost of living crisis, are able to switch to our Essential 10Mbps social tariff without being charged an exit fee to ensure they remain connected online,” said COO Peter Rampling

Last week the government released a new service run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) which allows ISPs to verify whether customers are eligible for extra financial support.
