A recent survey from bOnline has shown that many SMEs are unsure about the availability of altnet in their area, with confusion over the UK’s broadband roll-out strategy.
A £200m expansion into Great Britain will see Northern Ireland-based altnet Fibrus connect 40 Cumbrian towns and villages to fibre.
Fibrus will reach over 113,000 premises in the next three years, creating over 200 jobs across the county.
Overseeing the expansion is Fibrus’ newly appointed GB Build Director, Martin Dougan, who joins from Morrison Telecom Services where he led the fibre build for Openreach on Scotland.
He said: “Connectivity is more important than ever and is crucial to levelling up the UK economy.
"Following the launch in our first GB town, Penrith, at the end of last month, our GB rollout will bring hyperfast broadband to those towns and businesses that have been deprived for too long.”
The towns included in the rollout plan are: Kendal, Burneside, Staveley, Windermere, Ambleside, Workington, Whitehaven, Keswick, Cockermouth, Parton, Distington, Mayport, Stainburn, Seaton, Great Clifton, Flimby, Dearham, Silloth, Wigton, Longtown, Brampton, Dalston, Scotby, Ulverston, Dalton-in-Furness, Askam-in-Furness, Haverigg, Broughton-in-Furness, Frizington, Millom, Cleator Moor and St Bees, Egremont, Seascale, Grange-over-Sands, Milnthorpe, Holme, Arnside, Appleby-In-Westmorland, Sedbergh, Shap and Walney Island.
