The Broadband Forum’s Fibre Access Network (FAN) Work Area has launched a project that will introduce energy-saving requirements for the industry to adhere to.
The first iteration of the Freedom Fibre fund saw 13 community and non-profit groups receive funding to support their green initiatives.
The altnet has distributed £250 each to the groups it has identified across Irlam, Culcheth, Weaverham, and Whitchurch, where it is rolling out its network.
Recipients include Croft Village Memorial Hall, Warrington Sunday Litter Team and Weaverham Community Memorial Orchard.
CEO Neil McArthur said: “Playing our part in the communities in which we are working is so important to us and I can’t wait to see these projects come to fruition!”
The Fund will re-open again later in 2023 to provide support to a wider range of community groups.
