Openreach is to stop selling legacy analogue copper-based phone/broadband services in a further 163 locations, covering more than 960,000 UK premises, to help encourage people to upgrade to new digital services over a full fibre connection.
GoFibre is celebrating connecting 1,000 Hawick residents, as build completes in the town with homes and businesses now benefitting from full fibre.
With 6,000 premises ready for connection in Hawick, the altnet provider now has over 22,000 premises also able to connect across the Scottish Borders in places like Galashiels, Kelso, Melrose, Selkirk, Hawick, Jedburgh, and Duns.
Throughout the build process in Hawick, GoFibre has committed to supporting local communities and grassroots sports, sponsoring important events like Melrose 7s as well as the Borders Girls’ Rugby club.
In July 2023, GoFibre launched the GoFurther Fund with the goal of supporting charities, community groups and other key build communities’ organisations, including providing £3,000 for the charity Escape Youth Services that offers a vital youth facility for local children in Primary 6 and older in and around Hawick with the mission of improving social inclusion, isolation and anxiety.
