Following a key rollout milestone by Lilaconnect, full fibre broadband is now available to 80 per cent of premises in Stoke-on-Trent.
Next-generation communications is one of the main drivers to achieving its ambitious vision to digitally transform the city. This milestone is another step forward for Stoke-on-Trent in line with the UK government's target to have full-fibre technology available nationwide by 2030.
The 113km full-fibre FTTP network, part of the Silicon Stoke project, that has been laid across Stoke-on-Trent is available to 103,784 residential and commercial properties across the city.
VX UK was awarded the FTTP contract with LilaConnect as its ISP. VX UK merged with Freedom Fibre earlier this year
Jan Lange, Managing Director at LilaConnect explained: “To reach 80% of premises being able to connect to our full-fibre network in Stoke-on-Trent is a milestone to be celebrated. We remain steadfast in our vision to provide all Stoke-on-Trent residents and businesses with gigabit full fibre broadband that is future-proofed for decades to come.”
Councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker, Cabinet member for Transport, Infrastructure and Regeneration at Stoke-on-Trent City Council commented: “Only by having the infrastructure in place can you truly ensure that the residential and commercial premises are future-proofed which will enable them to continuously thrive and grow. This is why we have remained resolute in our commitment to achieving the ambitious goals laid out in the Silicon Stoke prospectus.”
