Openreach broadband use rises in 2024

A new annual update from Openreach as shown that broadband use across the UK increased by 10.5 per cent last year, with traffic up in 2024 to 103,590 Petabytes (Pb) of data.

The biggest surge in broadband use was towards the end of 2024, with December being the busiest month of the year for broadband traffic at a usage of 9,707 Pb, an 8.5% rise from December 2023.

Other key findings for the UK’s broadband use during 2024 include that the busiest day across the network was December 1st, when 405 Pb of data was consumed, alongside the second busiest day on 26th December with more than 367 Pb of data consumed.

The next busiest day was Sunday November 24th, when 355 Pb of data was consumed, and data usage also increased in November at 8,953 Pb – an 8% rise on November 2023.

According to the report data, in 2024 the busiest day of the week was typically a Sunday, and the busiest time on the network was usually in the evening between 8pm and 10pm.
