CityFibre has begun work to connect more than 45,000 homes and businesses across areas of Leicestershire and Warwickshire to full fibre thanks to an award of £77m as part of Project Gigabit.
Openreach is giving residents in Dumbarton, Alexandria and Balloch access to new ultrafast broadband networks after work on upgrades started recently.
The full fibre upgrades will allow thousands of local residents and businesses connect at gigabit-capable speeds and trade online and for decades.
Engineers have started work in the area and the build is expected to reach the majority of local homes and businesses, and local people can visit the Openreach website to register for updates.
Robert Thorburn, Openreach Partnership Director, said: “We’re bringing ultrafast broadband to Dumbarton, Alexandria and Balloch and letting local people know what to expect.
He added: “This is part of our balanced build across Scotland. Connecting everyone in Scotland to our fastest and most reliable broadband would result in a multi-billion pound economic boost.”
Openreach’s new ultrafast Full Fibre network in Scotland now reaches more than 1.3m properties, and the company plans to roll out the new technology to 25 million homes and businesses by the end of 2026, with an ambition to reach up to 30 million by the end of the decade.
