A recent survey from bOnline has shown that many SMEs are unsure about the availability of altnet in their area, with confusion over the UK’s broadband roll-out strategy.
Sam Rowlands MS recently joined Openreach engineers at work in Flintshire, where around 76% of premises can currently access ultrafast fibre through a £17m by the provider.
The tour started at the telephone exchange in Mold where the MS for North Wales could see up close the art of fibre splicing.
After the Mold exchange, it was a journey through the town to see the ‘final stage’ of the Openreach full fibre network and a talk with local engineers.
Sam Rowlands MS said: “Full fibre is without doubt the future of connectivity and the fact that Openreach is investing heavily in the area is to be welcomed.”
Martin Williams, Partnership Director for Wales, added: “Our investment in Flintshire demonstrates Openreach’s commitment to improving digital infrastructure and bridging the digital divide.”
