Openreach is progressing its Aberdeenshire network build to connect thousands of homes and businesses across Huntly, Macduff and Banff, with the aid of build partner MTS.

The first 1,000 properties across the three towns can switch to Openreach’s network alongside 53,000 across Aberdeenshire premises.

Over 50 per cent of homes and businesses that can upgrade have already done so.

Work is also planned in several more locations as part of the Scottish Government’s Reaching 100% programme, including Aboyne, Ballater and Crathie.

Work to bring full fibre to hard-to-reach homes and businesses in Methlick is almost complete.

Robert Thorburn, Openreach Partnership Director for Scotland, said: “When full fibre arrives in communities, it opens up massive digital opportunities. Research shows that connecting everyone in Scotland would bring a multi-billion pound productivity boost too.”

Openreach’s new ultrafast full fibre network now passes more than 1.4 million Scottish properties.
