CityFibre has secured a Gold Achievement Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), by demonstrating that staff and build partners operate in a safe environment.
Quickline has teamed up with Peoplesafe to provide extra support to its engineers working in remote areas.
Staff will receive a lone working device, called a MySOS ID Badge, which provides a 24/7 connection to a dedicated support team in the event they require emergency assistance. Calls can also be fast-tracked directly to emergency services.
The device uses a roaming SIM to ensure it connects automatically to the strongest network provider in the area.
It also includes fall detection safety technology which alerts the control centre if the wearer slips or falls and is then inactive for a period of time. Built-in GPS technology and integration with geocode system What3Words enables tracking of an employee’s location within a radius of five metres.
Stephen Wilkinson, Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) at Quickline, said: “To serve the hardest-to-reach rural communities across our network area, we need teams out making the fibre and fixed wireless connections to homes and businesses.
“Our engineers find themselves working in some of the most remote parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, and this investment provides an extra level of support and reassurance to them.”
COO Lee Allison added: “Our teams are at the heart of our business and there’s nothing more important to us than ensuring they can come to work, do their jobs safely and go home at the end of the day without any issues.
