Rolling out broadband infrastructure remains mission critical for the British public, and a new report from the Internet Services Providers’ Association (ISPA UK) shows that 78% believe that everyone in the UK should be able to access high-speed internet.

A new Broadband Genie and OnePoll survey has revealed that 60% of broadband user respondents are out of contract - with many who could switch to a different ISP paying more than they need to.
In a survey of 3,997 broadband bill payers in the UK between July and November 2024, the out-of-contract respondents varied between a peak of 64% for those aged 65+ and a low of 55% for younger users aged 18-24.
Broadband users could be saving money if they switched ISP, but nearly half of over-65s and a large number in other age groups hadn’t changed providers as they were happy with their current one.
Recent data from The One Touch Switching Company (TOTSCo) shows that over the past year, nearly 1.3m UK consumers have completed switching their fixed home ISP.
While many out-of-contract who use the biggest providers may be overpaying, for others with smaller ISPs on monthly terms with flat, constant pricing, they won’t have annual price increases, so switching isn’t always going to provide savings, although the OTS process has made this easier.
