Virgin Media O2 has successfully connected 1,000 mobile masts to its proprietary 10Gbps fibre backhaul network, enabling faster data speeds, lower latency and a more reliable mobile network experience for customers.
Virgin Media gigabit broadband is now available to 9,000 more homes in Chelmsford for the first time, following an investment by nexfibre, as part of £4.5bn spending in the UK to build a new full fibre wholesale network to five million homes by 2026.
Chelmsford residents can now sign up to broadband up to 26 times faster than the local average, with top speeds of 2Gbps.
The network has been built on behalf of nexfibre, which has already reached a total of one million premises passed and ready for service and will deliver broadband and TV streaming services to residents and businesses.
Rajiv Datta, CEO at nexfibre said the investment marked “a significant step on their journey” to connect premises: “nexfibre’s multi-million pound investment in Chelmsford will enable thousands of households to access the benefits of full fibre broadband, including being able to participate in the local economy and connect with the community.”
