Wessex Internet has connected its first customer in South Wiltshire as part of an £18.8 million contract awarded by Project Gigabit, bringing faster broadband to around 14,500 residents across the region.
Gigaclear is bringing its network to Dorset for the first time, working collaboratively with Dorset County Council to bring full fibre broadband to Blandford Forum.
The network will connect 6,000 homes and business premises in Blandford Forum and parts of Blandford St Mary.
The build comes with added complications as the market town’s paving stones are in the process of being restored, complicating the trenching process needed to lay the 33,000 metres of fibre required for the build.
Gigaclear is working with Dorset County Council to utilise existing broadband ducts and pole infrastructure.
Jo Scarrott, GM for Gigaclear in the south west, says, “Access to workable broadband is a must in today’s world, for education, home working, running a business, entertainment and keeping in contact with loved ones.”
