New economic research by Cebr shows Openreach’s digital upgrade could generate £4bn for Scottish economy by 2029 and help reverse depopulation, with half of Scottish residents now able to connect to broadband – thanks to £435m investment in the nation’s new network.

Openreach has revealed the London borough which has the highest level of full fibre coverage, with 1.5 million homes and businesses across the city now able to connect through the broadband provider’s network.
In Barking and Dagenham, more than eight out of 10 premises can upgrade to full fibre broadband through a provider of their choice.
Bexley, Redbridge, Hillingdon and Merton round off the top five.
Openreach is continuing build new and expand its existing Full Fibre network throughout London, with engineers working to reach more properties throughout the city.
Elaine Hope, Openreach’s Partnership Director for London, said: “This full fibre upgrade is a huge boost for London.
“And we’re not stopping yet; our investment across the city continues at pace with build continuing at forty locations across Greater London,” Hope concluded.
