A recent survey from bOnline has shown that many SMEs are unsure about the availability of altnet in their area, with confusion over the UK’s broadband roll-out strategy.
Jurassic Fibre is ramping up its rollout with expanded plans to cover 500,000 homes and businesses across 30 towns and villages in the south west by 2026.
The altnet has passed 100,000 underserved properties across 21 areas of Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Cornwall in its first four years, creating 350 jobs in the process.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak MP recently visited Jurassic’s Devon headquarters to discuss the company’s progress with CEO Michael Maltby.
He said: “There is a still a long way to go in bringing the south west’s digital infrastructure up to the levels required in the 21st century.
“By increasing our commitments we are demonstrating our dedication to supporting the Government’s levelling up agenda and making the south west an attractive region to live, work, invest and visit.”
Sunak added: “Improving digital connectivity across rural communities in the south west is a vital part of our ambitions to level up every corner of the country. Through better access to fibre, people and businesses in the region can benefit from the same opportunities afforded to regions like London and the south east.”
