Penrith is set to be the first location to benefit from Fibrus ’£ 200m investment in the digital infrastructure in Cumbria.
Fibers will pass around 7,600 premises using 225km of full fiber optic network and create over 100 jobs in the region as part of the rollout.
Penrith is the first town to benefit from over £ 20 million of investment in Cumbria in the first year of the project.
Regional Director Dean Jooste, said: "We know that many rural communities are deprived of hyperfast broadband which is something we are aiming for change with our expansion across Great Britain."
Dr Neil Hudson, MP for Penrith and The Border, added: “I will continue to work with all providers including Fibrus, and with the Government, to give the people of Penrith and The Border the broadband access they deserve.
It is so important that the harder to reach areas of rural Cumbria are not forgotten about and that is a key part of my ‘Better Connectivity’ Campaign. ”
