Openreach has called for easier broadband upgrades to give tenants in flats and apartments the legal right to request better internet access in the same way they can request pets, to prevent a new digital divide.

Openreach has hit the milestone of connecting 50% of UK premises to its full fibre network, with 16 million residential and business premises ready for service, according to data from thinkbroadband.
The operator's footprint was 12 million premises strong in December 2023, up from nearly nine million premises in December 2022, and nearly six million premises in December 2021.
thinkbroadband's data finds that the operator should hit its 25 million premise milestone between December 2026 and March 2027. Openreach will then slow its build rate, aiming for 30 million premises in 2030.
