The Government’s latest Statement of Strategic Priorities (SSP) for Telecommunications affirms its targets for UK gigabit broadband coverage and encourages Ofcom to maintain a competitive landscape for altnets.

Full Fibre has chosen 13 market towns across Derbyshire, Staffordshire, West Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire that are set to benefit from fibre-optic broadband.
The extended roll out will add 119,000 premises to Full Fibre's network, taking the altnet's total to over 250,000 premises.
CEO Oliver Helm said: "The areas we have chosen are currently relying on ageing copper connections that cannot meet the needs of consumers.
"It is vital that everyone has access to ultrafast services and the UK Government's Office for Science recently advising that the Prime Minister to consider designating broadband as an essential utility is testament to this."
