A recent survey from bOnline has shown that many SMEs are unsure about the availability of altnet in their area, with confusion over the UK’s broadband roll-out strategy.
Openreach has blown 3km of glass fibre across the Forth Road Bridge to ensure 85% of South Queensferry premises can access fibre services.
The project took six months to plan as engineers worked in steel tunnels under the walking platforms to prepare the bridge for the fibre cables.
Across the town 45 per cent of properties have signed up for full fibre services, which is 50 per cent higher than the Scottish average.
Partnership Director Robert Thorburn said: “Linking South Queensferry to our full fibre network was a once-in-a-generation engineering task.
“Gigabit-capable broadband can have a huge impact on people’s lives and it’s great for the economy.”
