A recent survey from bOnline has shown that many SMEs are unsure about the availability of altnet in their area, with confusion over the UK’s broadband roll-out strategy.
Wessex Internet is adding 100 new roles in the next year to accelerate its full fibre roll out in Dorset Somerset and Wiltshire.
The altnet currently employs around 110, up from 61 in August last year, and plans to have a team of over 200 within six months' time.
Wessex Internet has recently won a three-year programme to connect over 3,600 rural homes and businesses in South Somerset and a contract to deliver full fibre to community buildings from Blandford to Sherborne in Dorset by March 2022.
MD Hector Gibson Fleming said: "Having won two publicly funded contracts in the space of four months, now is the time to further strengthen our construction teams to accelerate our roll out.
"We are also setting up a new town planning and build team and are developing this capability in-house."
The new job vacancies will predominantly be in fibre planning, network engineering, civils and construction for both its town and rural network build teams, as well as a number of office-based roles.
